A Child’s Imagination: Princess of the Fairies.
This piece is to show a child’s imagination, and how innocently magical it is. How children believe in mythical beings almost as much as the people in medieval times did-however children to see the beings for their innocent, sweet, charming side… not the violent, tricky side the people from the past do.
Little girls often fantasize and imagine what it’s like to be a fairy or a princess so why wouldn’t a child pretend and imagine being a fairy princess.
I had to use a lot of overlay/luminosity effects on he fairies to achieve the unnatural glow of nothing more than photos of stars and lights to make them “pop” into life and not just blank balls of color that’s slightly transparent nearing the edges. I also used a lot of different effects to add darkness and lightness to the picture, making the fairy’s glow more real—proving how bright they really are. I also but some blue dots in the background to show that there are more fairies than what you can see upclose.
I made the background darker to make both the girl and the fairies pop. I also added a lot of shading and highlighting of the unicorn/horse with a narwal horn to show it's in the shadows but also to reflect the glow of the fairy by it. On the ground, I added lighting that would seep through the tree's bed of leaves above the girl. I also dulled the wing's color and added some shine to them to make them seem glossy and sink soft.
I tried to place the fairies in places where light was coming from in the origanal picture of the girl, even having to add a little more shading within the dress on her. Actually, I did shading on like... all the pictures. (I hope it looks natural!) More or less I like to have a big different in shades and shadows in drawings so that transfored over to this.
Other things you should note is that I had brightened the colors of the background:However, it's dark so you cannot tell unless you look in the lighted parts. Again, this is imaginary and supposed to be lively. Even if the background is currently dark I made it so it still seemed magical, not scary.
